EXPLORATIONS

Explorations is an assemblage of images made using different techniques inspired by classic cubism and contemporary artists including David Hockney and Catharine Balet. This series of images represent my attempt to explore the moment in abstract ways; to examine and parse moments to create original images.

  • The collages, inspired by French artist Catherine Balet, were created using my street photographs with overlays and transparencies to compress several moments in a nonlinear fashion.

  • The use of panels provides me with a way to highlight key elements of a photograph. It is my way of exaggerating the element I find most interesting in an image.

  • The use of disintegrating cubes is a way to dramatize what one physicist described as The Crumbling of Time as we move through it.

  • My use of motion blur is an attempt to smear movement across a moment and in that way to examine time and movement in an interesting manner.

  • Finally, my Nude Descending a Staircase is inspired by Marcel Duchamp & Eadweard Muybridge. It was my first attempt to compress time into a single photograph. It was a final project for a photoshop class at Santa Monica College.
